I finally have enough data to summarize how my second week long fast (3 days "water" + transition in/out days) for targeting potential/hypothetical reduction in life long cancer risks went. While early data shows these sorts of protocols may reduce risks at a population level it is impossible to know how much it will help my individual cancer risk even if the science was conclusive. That said, the experience and directly measurable biometrics were solid and my modifications fixed muscle loss problems with the version I executed in July. This protocol will work for me for the next one in 6-12 months. The post goes into a lot more details. #health #longevity #fasting #cancer #MultiDayFast

Closeout of My Potential Cancer Risk Reduction Multi-Day Fast Version 2.0

At the beginning of the month I did a week long “water” fast meant to potentially reduce my life-long cancer risk. The methodology I was trying for was described in this kick-off post . With now two weeks of data for the period afterward I can fully document how successfully the fast went and what the effects were on my immediately measurable and tracked biomarkers. What is impossible to do is determine if this is actually doing anything to reduce my cancer risk. That’s something that will at best be determined over time. It’s anti-climactic I know. The “results” question for me in the immediate term is if I’ve crafted a fasting protocol that works for me with minimal side effects. I'm about to embark on my second week long fast (3 days "water" + transition in/out days) targeting potential reduction in cancer risks. I've made some small tweaks from the lessons learned from the one in July, hence Version 2.0.

It’s about time for me to ramp up my second week long fasts. I developed this for my own needs and did the first try of it back in July, as documented here . For this second round I’m going to be tweaking some things based on lessons learned from my first attempt. Below I’ll outline everything again and the changes I’m making to it. As promised yesterday, here is a post on the multi-day fasting protocol I have created for myself. It is five days total with three days being a "water" fast. It is inspired by a combination of Dr. Valter Longo's three day "water" fast (which shows some evidence of potentially helping reduce cancer risk) and his Fast Mimicking Diet (which shows some evidence of helping as well but in a more approachable, non-fasting way). #health #longevity #fasting #cancer #ValterLongo #FastMimickingDiet #MultiDayFast

As I wrote in my “Thoughts on Fasting” post I am primarily looking to perform these multi-day fasts for cancer avoidance purposes. There is some evidence that a 3 day fast can help cut cancer risks. It is not a guarantee but the cost and risk associated with doing these things is small enough to make doing these things once or twice a year worth it even if it turns out to not have the cancer fighting benefit. A big part of the body of research I’ve followed on fasting has come from coverage of the works of Dr. Valter Longo . For years he has been an advocate for periodic multi-day fasts and avoiding excessive protein intake to increase longevity and cut down on cancer risks. This post highlights how I’ve designed my cancer avoidance fast around his techniques and research. @hankg Good luck in that!

I've not done a #MultiDayFast but have actually thought about going that direction. I have been living a #keto life style for nearly three years and generally don't get hungry any more, so I think that would help myself.

I look forward to reading your journey!
