The #MikoyanGurevichYe8 was a #supersonic #jetFighter developed in the #SovietUnion, intended to replace the #MiG21 (originally named #MiG23). Only two prototypes were built in 1960–61. The original MiG-21's air intakes were moved under the fuselage, freeing up the nose where a larger and more powerful #radar, able to deliver longer range #airtoairMissiles, could be built in. #Canards were built to both sides of the nose, in front of the #cockpit.

The stupider the weapon the happier it makes me. Take the MiG-21 for example. It isn’t easy to dogfight with. The gunsight is hard to keep on target and get an accurate shot with given the aircraft’s tendency to bob around. It bleeds airspeed very quickly and takes a while to gain it back. Its engine can also flame out if you look at it funny. But when you get a handle on it, it absolutely zooms.

Right, so word on the street is, some MiG-21 bits 'n' bobs were spotted heading from India to Kabul's Khwaja Rawash airport last Sunday. 👀 Comes after India promised Mullah Muttaqi six working MiG-21s. 🤔 Not exactly a match for the PAF's fighters, mind. ✈️

भारतीय हवाईदलाच्या स्थापनेला 93 वर्षे पूर्ण होत असतानाच त्यात नव्या युगाची सुरुवात करणाऱ्या मिग-21 लढाऊ विमानाला भावपूर्ण निरोप दिला गेला आहे. 26 सप्टेंबर 2025 ला चंदिगडच्या हवाईदल स्थानकावर पार पडलेल्या समारंभात या विमानांनी शेवटचं Operational उड्डाण केलं. त्यावेळी एका विमानाचं सारथ्य हवाईदल प्रमुख एअर चीफ मार्शल ए. पी. सिंह यांनी केलं होतं.
