With my Surrey hat on I always want to see us beat that lot from over the River.
But the state Middlesex CCC are now in is humiliating and embarrassing to the point where even the most committed member of the Peter May Boys will be letting up on the mockery.
In the 1980s Middlesex were the power side of County Cricket. Often fielding a side full of internationals, meaning all of 1 to 11 had played for their country, they had serious star quality.
Which delivered 5 County championship titles from 1980-93 and 5 one day titles from 1980-88. All while contributing regular players to the England test team.
There's an expectation that if you play for Middlesex and therefore at Lord's (the "Home Of Cricket") you are top notch and will help the club be successful.
Trouble is, the last few years has been anything but successful. Embarrassing failures on and off the field have left Middlesex rudderless in every way.
Today was humiliating for the club - "Middlesex's embarrassment hit a new low this week, when the club were forced to postpone a photocall at Wednesday's annual media day, due to "unforeseen circumstances surrounding the delivery of the club's playing kit"."
And some former players have had enough. Former England captain and Middlesex legend Mike Gatting may be hogging the headlines, but the other names carry serious Middlesex clout. Their presence adds a huge amount of gravitas to the call for change.
Mike Selvey, John Emburey, Mark Ramprakash, Desmond Haynes and Clive Radley. All respected international players with their own particular profiles.
If anyone is "Mr MCC Coaching Manual and Spirit of Cricket", it's Clive Radley.
If you'd have told me that Clive Radley would be pressing for change at the top of Middlesex I would never have believed you.
Yet Radders has signed his name to the letter.
That is huge.
The Middlesex management need to recognise that.
