Today feels like a hinge day in the San Francisco forecast. Still mild enough to see the Pacific’s influence, but warm enough to hint at the hotter pattern building into Monday.

Bay Area weather is often less about a single temperature and more about watching which air mass is starting to win.

Managing Snow Accumulation in Cold Climate #Permaculture Designs

"As the frost starts and snow falls, I think back to my childhood winters. I remember wearing layers, playing in the snow, and building snow forts. These memories remind me of winter’s beauty and wonder.

"But for those of us in permaculture, snow brings both challenges and opportunities. How can we use winter to help our #gardens and #ecosystems grow?

"In this article, we’ll look at how to manage snow in permaculture. We’ll explore how to work with nature to create systems that grow all year. We’ll discuss the role of snow, designing #microclimates, and removing snow sustainably.

"These strategies will help you succeed in even the snowiest places. Let’s learn how to make winter a source of life and growth."

The rest of California is on fire and I’m sitting here in Alameda like: OMG! It was in the mid 80’s today! #Microclimates
@xenogon In my zone 6a, Camellia sinensis would need to be grown in one of my greenhouses. I have lemon, leaf lime, figs, & turmeric. Ginger, soon. I got 4 hardy bananas for OUTDOORS😮 (biomass, not fruit, is my picture of their function along with shade, screen, windbreak, fodder?) Stay tuned.
If the numbers on this map indicate frost-free months, then it looks like you have more leeway than me, maybe, especially by using / making #microclimates, and building season extenders.

All this passive cooling instead of using A/C would have a huge impact on energy usage.

I reckon that if we could capture and store the #AtmosphericRiver and #Flashflood/#Monsoon-type #rainfalls regionally, that would also be a huge game-changer.

I've read about the roofed canals, too.

I believe that humanity needs to think much bigger and use #Agrivoltaics wherever possible. (In fact, we could call the swimming panels and the roofed canals #Aquavoltaics.

As I've researched for my thread, agrivoltaics creates #microclimates, likewise irrigated gardens like the ones built by the #Moors in southern Spain, e.g. #Granada.
Picture this 4 almost any fields, rivers, and reservoirs, as well as some coastal regions...still micro?

Mapping Sydney’s Microclimates to Combat Impacts of Rising Heat

200 bespoke temperature gauges have been strategically positioned across #Sydney to accurately measure local heat island effects and help prepare the community for hotter summers.

The City of Sydney has set a goal to be net zero by 2035. It aims to increase tree canopy cover to 27%, and green cover to 40% by 2050.

“Sydney is one of the most liveable cities in the world but we need to prepare now for our future climate so we can all adapt and thrive.”

About to embark on a long trek through #EasternWA, Central #Oregon & Northern #CA. I will see magnificent scenery & be amazed by the #microclimates. The #PNW is a fabulous environment, though the ravages of wildfire & resource extraction mar her endless beauty. #Roadtrip to see #family, grateful for the infrastructure our taxes pay for, ready for shock of #peakoil fossil fuel prices. Love to see the volcanoes 🌋 feel their dormant power.
Apricots & plums will fall, the #garden continues w/o me.
