Storytelling and understated melodic strength are big components of folk artist Mick Flannery's songwriting, as he tips his hat to roots music and Irish traditions as well.

Mick Flannery is a folk artist who also draws some inspiration from the classic roots rock sound, and to some extent, Irish folk traditions. He stands out with his songwriting skills such that John Prine's label Oh Boy Records, who he signed up with recently, provides a good context for his work. That connection is especially appropriate with respect to his knack for storytelling and the overall tone in his melodies and delivery, which suggest a fine artist who operates from a similar premise and pays extra attention to his narratives. The measured gruffness in his voice gives his music a lived-in feel. There is a melancholic layer to his songs that is hard to miss, along with the rich emotional textures he accesses through his songs.
@donncha I’ll give you a shout next time I’m in Blarney 😉
