“The entirety of TR-49 takes place from a first-person perspective as you sit in front of a kind of Steampunk-infused computer terminal. An unseen narrator asks you to operate the machine but is initially cagey about how or why or what you’re even looking for. There’s a creepy vibe to the under-explained circumstances that brought you to this situation, but the game never descends into the jump scares or horror tropes of so many other modern titles.”

The lesson from As We May Think is that a purely technical solution like the #memex is not enough. #Technology still needs to be human-centred, underpinned by a #philosophicalvision. As we contemplate a great automation in #humanthinking in the years ahead, the challenge is to somehow protect our creativity and reasoning at the same time.

Beyond the practicalities of having easy access to so much information, Bush believed that the added value in the #memex lay in making it easier for users to manipulate ideas and spark new ones. His essay drew a distinction between repetitive and creative thought, and foresaw that there would soon be new “powerful mechanical aids” to help with the repetitive variety.

I read the article, and learned of #Memex and it's history.

And the concerns of it's inventor and the article's author about humans not doing their own thinking.

That seems to have been the only stuff about how Memex might help us survive #AI.
The following is the final paragraph in the article,
"As we contemplate a great automation in human thinking in the years ahead, the challenge is to somehow protect our creativity and reasoning at the same time."

What's the best alternative to #Pocket?

I'm seeing #readeck, #wallabag, #raindropio, #instapaper, #karakeep, #floccus, #memex, #obsidian, and #curiooo.

I need it to do a good job reading articles and be available for web and android. I'd love it to be FOSS and let me support them monthly. I dream of it having great integration with my fedi account.

I see that @readeck, @instapaper, @wallabag and @obsidian are here. Anybody else?
