#mastodongripe really wish there were separate options for "note this toot for later reference" and "show cordial appreciation for this toot," instead of having to hit Favorite for both uses. The current set-up means I'm increasingly disinclined to give friendly encouragements, even on posts prompting a good chuckle or smile, because that would clutter up my "reference" archive.

That uncertainty about what hashtags to use provides another example why Mastodon's lack of search so frustrating. I get that it is a hard problem, I'm not throwing a tantrum demanding changes, but the status quo could be greatly improved without compromising the general ideals, imho.

(I think the correct tags to use here are #MastodonSearch, maybe #Search. Is #MastodonGripe a thing? #AnnoyingTwitterRefugees?)

I would really really REALLY like to know why the popup menu at the lower right of every post lets you do everything EXCEPT follow the account that made the post.

#MastodonGripe Keyboard navigation is really, and I mean, REALLY useful.

But it would be far better if j/k navigation would position the focused toot at the top of the stream in view. I constantly focus a new toot and then have to either keyboard or click around to position it so that it is READABLE within the page.
