@nicemicro #MapBattle is a game where teams go around the city (the pilot was played in #seattle today) using #publictransit and add missing information to #openstreetmap

Teams get points and the team with the most number of points in a neighborhood flips it to their team color, the team with most neighborhoods (i.e. territories; since we might play versions of the game in the future where we go beyond city bounds) wins!

Game lasted for 5 hours, everyone played till the last minute even those who showed up saying they won't stay till the end! (an indication that it was a fun game)

We made a total of 1095 changes in 47 different neighborhoods!

Less than half an hour left in the game and it is a Seattle Saturday night which means transit frequency are not gonna help folks that much

2 teams are biking though and this last push could be their chance.

.... or they could be pretty damn tired lol

A very interesting comeback from canopy mappers, I'm not surprised though, seemed like the best bet is to expand east which looks like that is what they did!

With a little over 1 hour left in the 5 hours long game, and with teams expected to head back near capitol hill for post game dinner/drink soon, I still can't call it, still anybody's game!

OMG so the teams are going to meet back in cap hill after the game ends and though so far this territory is not claimed by any team I'm excited for a show-down over that territory, bonus points if it was a tie breaker between any two teams! this is the kind of action I hoped to see in a future game after the game is more mature not the pilot!!

mapbattle pilot is pretty successful so far!

Here are some of the rules:
- Only biking and public transit are allowed.
- Only opensource maps are allowed to be used for navigation.

With less than 2 hours left in the game, it is still anybody's game judging by how the teams mostly spread out with little to no contested territories (Wheelie Good Team and crochett rocket being an exception with an extremely entangled territory that is vulnerable to flipping!)

2 out of 5 hours of the game passed and competition is fierce with some territory expansion but little to no territory flipping, that's what I good for inviting a bunch of cooperators to compete lol

fun fact, not a single team even attempted to take control of capitol hill's neighborhoods WHERE WE STARTED!
