The Junction Hotel/Inn, later known as the Hellfire Club at Smedley, North Manchester, photographed in 1906 and 1966. I did not take either photograph, as was not alive in either year! It is now derelict.

Mayor of Oldham Zahid Chauhan shows the plaque at Crossley Centre to pupils from Christ Church School. The children performed a poem they had written about the people who marched to Manchester in August 1819 to attend a pro-democracy rally, where they were attacked by troops in what became known as the Peterloo Massacre.
The plaque explains how Chadderton men John Ashton and Thomas Buckley died from wounds suffered at Peterloo.

We were very glad to be at Chadderton today. The Major of Oldham joined the history ambassadors from Christ Church School, plus local councillors, organisers and Peterloo historians, at the unveiling of a plaque remembering two Chadderton men, John Ashton and Thomas Buckley, who died from wounds inflicted by troops at the Peterloo Massacre in 1819.
