#TunisianCrochet update. Now switching to these laceweight yarns. The orange one is one I dyed myself! I need to do a proper writeup but a couple of years back i did a video of the process (uncaptioned, sorry 😔) https://www.instagram.com/tv/CFD-35RJt9_/?igshid=NTdlMDg3MTY= there are other local dyers (they even sell their stuff iirc) but I'm quite proud of this project because i was like, ok fine we don't do wool #dyeing & acid dyes but we have an extensive #textile industry, surely the more affordable dyes here could work too?? It's a bit challenging because #batik manufacturers have a different dyeing practice with their reactive dyes (so no emphasis to exhaust the dye bath for e.g.) and they tend to sell as repacks (so i don't have exact manufacturer details) but it worked out. Now i have to spin enough plain yarn for the next dyeing project... 😅

I don't need to follow twitch streamers. I just need to watch my parliament session livestreams because it's rare to find a stream that DOESN'T have the chat window disabled. Popcorn gallery activated. #MYToots #Fedijaya #MYFedi

The most challenging thing with #TunisianCrochet for me is how I'm holding the hook as the stitches grow. I need to take active breaks. It means I'm much slower with this compared to #crochet and #knitting but as a personal compromise to weaving, it does look good. Even if i made a booboo with the honeycomb stitch count (the beginning rows), but it's my own pattern so I decided to 'reset' with a couple of Afghan stitch rows. And these are all my own yarn I spun wheeeee

Early in the pandemic, i got started on audiobooks proper, and randomly picked this one: "Smell Detectives: An Olfactory History of Nineteenth-Century Urban America" by Melanie A. Kiechle, which at that time, only just came out the year before.

I don't see it figure much in recommendations but I found it to be an illuminating episode in the history of public health. Essentially, as germ theory proved itself over 'miasma theory', the presence of the public as an informed stakeholder began to diminish, because 'bad smells' can be dismissed as a legitimate cause of complaint (since it's not necessarily 'diseased'). You can draw a straight line from that shift to how industrial pollution crept into housing areas as well as 'civilian' individuals losing their civic influence in local government.

Anyway, I did actually review this (i should review more #books): https://moreofacomment.my/wp/2021/07/07/book-smell-detectives/

Book Review: Smell Detectives – More of A Comment

As a resident of a country with perennial data hacks, I'm pretty used to fielding scam calls. I highly recommend indulging them if you have the time. Though the last spate of calls (the Macau scam style, so one is always on the hook for some tax evasion crime) came one after another in the same week, I was like, "wow, that's a lot of criming huh," to the scammer and now I've apparently been blocked by the syndicate 🫠.

At least text scammers still remember me 🥲

Sunset in #KualaLumpur (or KL if you know what's what). Got free dinner near the twin towers, so here you go.

The convenient thing with the #Malaysia country code is that it's also a pronoun so why is it #TootsMY and not #MYToots, but also #MYFedi has a nice ring to it for the #Fediverse, since it's not just mastodon. #Fedijaya is also a contender. I'll probably be the only one using those last two though, lol.

ETA: and per this post, #TootSEA as well!
