@georgetakei Mom didn't file taxes for a couple years, then closed an Annuity. The IRS sent her a demand letter for $6K and flagged her account because there'd been no returns on file recently.
Even though she had no income beyond interest and it was below reporting requirements, the IRS still wanted a return. I bought a MacBook, loaded MacInTax on it, and took it to her place. After a painful afternoon where she struggled to dig up all the stuff the IRS needed to prove the Annity sale was tax-free, she admitted she'd not been keeping up with the tax code. And that her record keeping wasn't what it should have been.
We filed an amended return and she agreed to see someone next year to prepare her return. That was a breakthrough for her--admitting Mom the Bookkeeper couldn't keep her books well enough to do her taxes.
But she still had to file taxes every year. The #MAGAIdiot will learn. The IRS may be smaller, but they'll come after her.
