The #Lucknow mapping party we tried to organize this Sunday was a major disappointment.
Existing mappers messaged? About 300.
People invited at #LucknowFOSS? Probably 20.
How many turned up? 4. Of which 2 were organizers.
It didn’t rain like it did during the first mapping party. I didn’t screw up the publicity like I did during the second one. We did everything right, and here’s where we are. Four people. One was actually a bystander who joined us serendipitously.
I might just start telling people that if they like the idea of mapping parties, the most important thing they can do is ensure we get good attendance.
Poor attendance murders my motivation to organize and publicize. And we need regular participants who can become co-organizers, if we want these events to not be dependent on a handful of individuals.
Fighting the anger and bitterness is so hard, some days…
(We also need to improve our publicity.)
