[cont..] Detecting the cycle is finished is done through a #LocalBytes power monitoring plug (via MQTT over WiFi to #homeassistant). An automation watches for power consumption to fall and then stay beneath a few Watts for 30 seconds.

It adds a delay to detecting completion, but means brief power dips between cycle phases don't trigger a false alert.

The alert in turn calls a Notify action.

This looks pretty interesting, especially the configurator built right into Home Assistant! Nice work Adam and #localbytes team.

Introducing The LocalDeck

@paco I'm just about to retire my TP-Link Kasa smart plugs for this reason. I've never been that happy with them so this is a good reason to upgrade. I just need to work out how best to transfer my device power consumption history. I'm replacing with #LocalBytes smart plugs.
I've finally gotten a #homeassistant instance up and running and slowly collecting data from various sources around the house. I've ordered some new plugs from #localbytes to track office power usage and am looking to see if I can find a wall light enclosure with integrated automation so I don't need expensive bulbs to do the job.
Got some of these magic little things on order: https://www.mylocalbytes.com/products/smart-plug-pm
Such a good price _and_ I don’t need to flash them. #localbytes #tasmota #homeautomation
Power Monitoring Smart Plug - Preflashed & Preconfigured

Tip for #Tasmota nerds with #LocalBytes #LocalBytesShop smart plugs --

To switch the output permanently on, use this template:
{"NAME":"LocalBytes PM Always On","GPIO":[0,0,0,0,2720,2656,0,0,2624,3872,3840,0,0,0],"FLAG":0,"BASE":18}

When the smartplug reboots, power metering won't work because it thinks the switch is off. To fix that, open the Console and send this command:
SetOption21 1

To undo, restore the template from: https://blog.mylocalbytes.com/kb/2023-02-01/refs-wifi-smart-plug/
Then Console -> SetOption21 0

@ChrisWarwick @peter @alexgranford @revk Thanks to this post I discovered #LocalBytes and ordered some power monitoring plugs myself. They arrived this morning and I was just playing with one to see how it all worked.

It says firmware 12.2.0 on the box but it was running 12.1.1. Obvs mashed that upgrade button and on 12.3.1 now 😁

Really slick getting into #HomeAssistant, I spent some time trying to figure out how to enable detection only to find it was already there and set up πŸ˜…

Thanks! πŸ‘β€οΈ

I discovered (no pun intended!) the reason for my issue with HA discovery - the plug was dated August last year and running firmware version 12.1.0. Name resolution was introduced in 12.1.1. 😠 I've now upgraded to the latest version and ha.local is found without problems. #HomeAssistant #LocalBytes #SmartPlug

My #LocalBytes Smart Plug arrived this morning - all set up with #HomeAssistant
After install I was unable to see the plug in HA. After a bit of faffing about I found that the problem was that the plug couldn't resolve the name of my HA server (I use "ha.local"). I changed to the IP address and all was well.
Fabulous service from Local Bytes - I've just ordered four more πŸ™‚
