happy friday!
happy friday!
Quite a varied selection this week! Another Disney sequel, two cinema releases, and one miscellaneous film (or rather a two-episode miniseries) to bring it up to four.
102 Dalmatians — 1½ stars
Hoppers — 3 stars
Project Hail Mary — 4 stars
Battle Angel Alita (AKA Gunnm) — 3 stars
Also just out of view is the 1996 *101 Dalmatians*, which I rewatched to refresh my memory for the sequel. For the record, I give it 2½ stars.
Hacksaw Ridge was the highlight of my #LastFourWatched for this #LetterboxdFriday
First half was fun (Vince Vaughn was an excellent hardass sargeant). Second half was an uncomfortably uncompromising portrayal of a battle. Great film.

Taylor Tomlinson: Prodigal Daughter (2026) - 2.5

Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key - 4 stars
Hell Comes to Frogtown - 2 stars
What Have You Done to Solange - 3 stars
The Boss Baby - 1 star
BROKEN VOICES - 🇨🇿 🇸🇰
Subtle, based-on-true-story drama about grooming and abuse in a prestigious girls' choir. Beautifully acted by its young cast
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
FRAULEIN - 🇩🇪
A young woman from Bosnia changes the outlook of an older woman from Yugoslavia ('No-one calls it that any more') through what the blurb calls 'an unlikely friendship'. Solid enough, but hits a few too many cliches along its way
⭐ ⭐ ⭐
FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD - 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Postcard pretty York Notes adaptation of the novel that hits most of the major plot points but completely misses the soul of the book by flattening the story down to a bucolic romance.
Also, Bathsheba Everdene is so modern, she doesn't know the origin of her own first name. In 19th century England? O...K.
But it's zippy and I can't pretend I wasn't entertained
⭐ ⭐ ⭐
AURORA - 🇷🇴
Imagine Chantal Akerman had made Taxi Driver. It's a little bit like that

Strongroom – Excellent taut British B thriller. Snappy and to the point. Recommended.
La Grazia – After the truly abysmal Parthenope Sorrentino redeems himself with this affecting story of a politician struggling to make a difficult decision about pardoning people for crimes they have committed. Tony Servillo is excellent.
Starter for 10 – Fun rewatch. Can’t imagine how much they would have had to pay for music clearance to so many Cure songs.
Dead Man’s Wire – Enjoyable Dog Day Afternoon-style hostage thriller. Looks good, and is often very funny. Colman Domingo kills it as a smooth-talking DJ.
