Sonny's Time Now is an album by American free jazz drummer Sunny Murray, his first as a leader. It was recorded in New York City on November 17, 1965 and first released on LeRoi Jones' Jihad label.

Thurston Moore included Sonny's Time Now in his "Top Ten From The Free Jazz Underground" list, first published in 1995 in the second issue of the defunct Grand Royal magazine.Moore wrote: "This recording is super-lo-fi and is awesome... The New Wave in Jazz is a live album recorded on March 28, 1965, at the Village Gate in New York City. It features groups led by major avant-garde jazz artists performing at a concert for the benefit of The Black Arts Repertory Theater/School founded by Amiri Baraka, then known as LeRoi Jones...

...Baraka booked a March 28 concert under the name "New Black Music" for the benefit of BARTS, and also arranged for it to be recorded. A poster for the concert advertised $5 tickets and listed the participants as John Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, Betty Carter, Grachan Moncur, Albert Ayler, the Sun Ra Myth-Science Arkestra, and Charles Tolliver.

Writing for All About Jazz, Clifford Allen commented: "Cooking through contradiction, the New York Art Quartet cut some of the most powerful music in the free jazz underground..Graves is defiantly in his own orbit. Rather than providing a canvas to free the soloist a la Sunny Murray, Graves is impulsive and either ignores or counteracts the soloist with non-isometric phrases, creating tension through non-unison collectivity. Yet there's propulsion and swing by dint of disparity, a pulse that's kinetic even if it's multidirectional."

Black And Beautiful... Soul And Madness by The Jihad, released on Jihad Productions in 1968.

One-piece on a New York Art Quartet side earlier, but Black & Beautiful was recorded at my home and in the small theater my wife, Amina, and I built there The Spirit House (33 Stirling St.) shortly after I had returned home to Newark, NJ, after the implosion of the Harlem based Blacks Arts Repertory Theater-School. Spirit House, like the Black Arts, was created to present Black theater, poetry, music, and political dialogue. we thought of ourselves as cultural workers, revolutionary artists 'pushing the program' as some of our cultural nationalist comrades were wont to say.
