I thought the whole point of using Linux instead of #Windows was so I WOULDN'T have to do this

Welp, that was a thing. It took 45 minutes to get #LXLE live running, then another 30 to do a full install just to crash and not work.
My expectations were low, but this fell even lower than that.
I then attempted to install LXLE on the bare metal. After boot I just kept getting a black screen.
I booted up #Q4OS with #TrinityDE. It’s fine; it’s just not as exciting as getting Trinity running on my #mangopi #sbc

Und wieder ein Rechner gerettet, den meiner Mutter. AMD #Athlon 64 X2 (2007) mit MS Vista (!) läuft nun stabil und recht flott mit #LXLE 32bit- Edition für mindestens noch 3 bis 4 Jahre als Surf- und Büromaschine. LXLE basiert auf #Lubuntu und das wiederum auf #Ubuntu (und das wiederum auf #Debian), stellt aber eine 32bit- Edition bereit.
Lässt sich auch optisch an die Bedürfnisse einer Ex- Vista- Userin anpassen 😜👍

Ian NeillFinally got #samba working again, again, on my #LXLE #Focal64 #linux box.
So annoying that it seems to regularly break after samba is updated.
This time I just could not get it to work again no matter how much I tinkered with smb.conf. In the end I just purged samba and reinstalled it.
After I added my smb user, added a share and restarted smbd, it all just worked . Now able to browse and read/write linux->windows and vice -versa! Hurrah!
And that smb.conf file has also been backed up...
What a pain! Spent ages trying to get #samba working on #lxle focal 64. Able to prove that samba was installed but the #smbd service was refusing to start. Also, trying to connect as a client to other servers failed. Eventually decided to blow away the smb.conf file, replacing it with the default. After that I was able to start the smbd service. Then able to connect to shares and advertise them too. No idea why the "as installed" smb.conf file was such a mess, and needed to be exterminated 😠
When I last used this PC it was a speed demon... Now I think it might qualify as #retro to some. It is getting a rebuild/upgrade, #lxle OS, an SSD (a donation), and a #Core2Quad 9650 CPU (eBay). Nearly ready for power up, once I find a PS2 keyboard and mouse.
