Leitir Rósa Ní Dhochartaigh.pdf

Google Docs

I transcribed a letter written by Rósa Ní Dhochartaigh in the 17th century to an unknown to us priest and I wrote grammar (and spelling) notes to it.

The manuscript is available here: https://archive.org/details/contemporaryhistv1p2gilb/page/n151/mode/1up

And the PDF with my transcription, my translation, and the notes here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ggzP0v1V_0sCUFwn4DsSwwdlrQgCwQNd/view

I typeset the thing with #Junicode.

My absolute favourite part of all the “Irish Grammatical Tracts”.

As lór liom ar labhrus de sin. [🎤 drop]

(§137 in Bergin’s edition of IGT i; lines 1196–1200 in Mac Cárthaigh’s “The Art of Bardic Poetry” – section about the longest possible compound)

The text typeset with #LaTeX and #Junicode.

A nice interesting stanza from “Roinn leithe ar cóigeadh Connocht” (https://bardic.celt.dias.ie/displayPoem.php?firstLineID=1648) as edited and translated by Mícheál Hoyne. Some random notes in a 🧵. #Gáoidhealg #Gaoidhealg #ClassicalGaelic #Gaeilge #Gáidhlig

(+ some fun I had with the font #Junicode in the image attached)

‘Síoth Aodha bhus ainm don tigh’
This is “(is) Máire is ainm dom” type sentence, but in the future – ‘bhus’ is the relative fut. copula ‘that will be’, so literally ‘it’s S. A. that will the name of the house’.
