It comes after unprecedented talks between the US and Iran ended in failure, as Vice President JD Vance said Iran refused to rule out its pursuit of a nuclear weapon.

President Trump says his blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will stop any ship, including those that have paid a toll to Iran from passing in or out, adding that any Iranian that fires on American or other peaceful vessels will be “blown to hell”.

Iran said any military vessels approaching the Strait will be considered violating the ceasefire and will be “dealt with.”

Are we entering a new and dangerous chapter of this six week old war? The world and the markets will soon find out whether Trump’s leverage has worked or backfired.
