Last questions in our minisymposium on #IndividualBasedModels: What does it take to become a good modeller?
Answers from our guest speakers include persistence, stubbornness, patience, curiosity, creativity and interdisciplinary thinking.
Note that lots of prior experience in coding or maths is missing from the list, because these are just tools that can be learned on the way. So no need to feel intimidated - #modelling is for everyone! ;-)
...and here comes the second session of our #minisymposium on #IndividualBasedModels!
We will talk about #parasites, #CollectiveBehaviour, #sociality, #InvasiveSpecies and a lot more. Today’s speaker line-up: @djhelam1, Valentin Lecheval, @KristyFerraro and Arman Pili.
Live-toots in the 🧵 below!

And off we go! The first session of our #minisymposium on #IndividualBasedModels is going to start in a few minutes! We will talk about #bumblebees, #Malaria, #parasites, #competition, #DecisionMaking, #CollectiveMovement and a lot more.
Today’s speaker line-up: @JordanChetcuti, Paola Carillo-Bustamante, @senay, @VeraVinken and @iplanass.

Do you (want to) use #IndividualBasedModels in your research?
We organize a #minisymposium on Dec 14/16, 8:15-10 am German time, as part of my #ComputationalEcology course. Nine international #ERC researchers will talk about why they started modelling and how computer simulations help them to address their research questions.
I will try to live-toot the event, but you are also welcome to join. Just text me for the zoom link! Everyone welcome! 😀

Hi colleagues! I'm a #computationalbiology expert in #IndividualBasedModels and microbial ecology. I'm focus on study emergent properties from complex microbial communities applying in-silico bottom-up approach.
Interested in expand my knowledge about microbial evolution and machine learning.
I'm in my last year of PhD, so I'm looking for postdoc opportunities to continue my research.
Other interests include #mountainbiking #Hiking #scientificphilosophy
I've now pivoted from timescales of millions of years, to days/weeks. I'm interested in how sexual conflict in insects changes (or doesn't) when population densities are very low. In particular, can insects' capacity for #parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction) help them survive population bottlenecks?
I hope to address this topic with experiments and #AgentBasedModels / #IndividualBasedModels. I'm also interested in using #MachineLearning to make the #simulation process more efficient.
