Good weekend!

Friday #ISNIC invited the staff and board and partners out for a fancy meal, to celebrate 70000 registered domains and the start of a new year. There was good food, good wine, singing and almost-but-not-quite #dancing on tables. Walking on tables?

Wife was dressed to the nines and impressed everyone, as always. Making me look good... 😍

Afterwards I went out looking for my drinking buddies, but failed to find them. I had an interesting conversation with a paramedic though! Off-duty, thankfully. 🚑

Yesterday I was in full Dad Mode, took Daughter to my the annual Australia Day Beach Party, which is organized by one of my dear friends. A beach party with beer and barbeque, kids playing in the surf... in the freezing cold. The perfect marriage of Australian and Icelandic sensibilities. 🍍

Wife went out to dance in the evening and I tried to re-watch Primer after Daughter fell asleep... but wasn't able to focus. I love that film but it takes a specific mood. 🕑

Daughter let us sleep until 9am this morning! Such luxury!

Today I'll try to balance working on #PageKite tax stuff with some family time. Hopefully a trip to the pool...

Not-so-new-anymore job update:

I'm still a noob at #ISNIC. But my boss has said repeatedly to my face that he's really glad he hired me, and I've graduated to the point of finding broken things, evaluating the importance and then deciding to Just Fix It.

I'm now actively pushing the company towards the timeline where certain outages just never happened...

My PHP- and SQL-foo are also both improving rapidly. And I know a lot more about #DNS than I did six months ago...

It's all good.

These days at #ISNIC, I am working to improve our minimal DNS hosting service ("DNS Forwarding") to make it easier for folks to configure e-mail.

And yes, it's mostly about that cloudy stuff, Google and Microsoft Office 365 hosted e-mail... but as a matter of principle, I want to add some indie providers to the preconfigured list.

ProtonMail keeps coming up, so I'll probably add them. And of course our local https://1984.is/.

Does the Fediverse have any recommendations for other user-friendly e-mail services that let people use their own domains?

Meanwhile, I've learned about PHP type annotations and am improving our invoicing systems, and I'm getting more confident answering customer questions on the phone.

Small companies are so much more fun to work for than big ones.
