Matt Duss: "Obama agreed to $1.3 billion in sanctions relief for Iran as part of a deal that prevented both an Iranian nuke and a war.
Trump withdrew from the deal, started a war that will likely result in Iran obtaining a nuke, and Trump gave Iran $14 billion in sanctions relief."

Krystal Ball: "The first Trump Administration ripped up a nuclear deal that was working. The Iranians had offered extraordinary concessions in the latest round of negotiations before Trump used the ruse of diplomacy to attack their country and murder their leader."

After #DonaldTrump exited the accord, enrichment climbed again, fueling today’s #Iran nuclear tensions in #Politics. The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action required Iran to cap enrichment at 3.67% and reduce its stockpile to 300 kg, with the IAEA conducting thousands of inspections. In May 2018, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the deal, calling it “a bad deal,” and reimposed sanctions. By 2023, the IAEA reported Iran had accumulated more than 400 kg enriched to 60%, a level far above civilian needs and close to weapons grade at 90%. Supporters of the deal argue inspections had constrained Iran’s program; critics argue the agreement had sunset clauses and did not address missiles or regional activity. — This is how we got here.
