Interesting that this 1957 (stereo) recording gets kind of “meh” *artistic* notices from the reviewing community, or did…I think it’s rather great.

This is a kind of spectacularly wide-screen recording…not a natural soundstage, but rather a wide, interesting use of the technology. And the new Impex pressing is, well, great.

#NowListening to #BlowUp by the #SuzukiIsao Trio/Quartet. This is, I think, my favourite album from the #Impex #ThreeBlindMice boxset because perhaps swings the hardest.

I love the playing here & the record sounds about as good as anything I’ve heard: the natural attack of the piano, the timbre of the bass & cello, & the detail in the percussive snap of the drums.

This was mastered & cut at 45 by #TohruKotetsu who makes full use of that groove space.
