I love automating things.
It tickles my autism brain to reduce a complex process to a well-defined set of interconnected, repeatable, auditable steps.
Watching it tick off and walk through everything is mesmerizing and fills me with joy and wonder. It's like a magic trick.
Also, minimizing the number of steps and making each step more efficient is an obsession. It felt so good when I used jq to replace a set of nested loops and cut runtime from three plus hours to 45 minutes. Big dopamine hit.
Reminded me of the old meme that I saw printed out and stuck to a guy's cubicle over a decade ago: "Go away or I will replace you with a very small shell script." That's my job, basically now.
And it's great.
