@jswright61 @lisamelton

So, umm.. that’s… that’s not entirely true.

Mastodon runs on the #HumanAlgorithm.

I share posts and people I think my friends will like. My friends do likewise.

It’s how humans have connected with each other for millennia.

It incentivizes conversation and community, while commercial social media only likes conflict and controversy.

@Catvalente

…right?

when you remove the profit motive that drives conflict and controversy, you get the #HumanAlgorithm promoting community and conversation.

@johnvoorhees @nileane

To be clear, fedi has an algo too.

It’s the same algo humans have used since the clay and stylus days to complain about copper quality, er, connect and communicate.

Unlike commercial social media algos, which serve to promote conflict and controversy, the #HumanAlgorithm here seeks conversation and community.

@sjjphd

The #HumanAlgorithm on Mastodon prioritizes community and conversation over controversy and conflict

Find cool peeps. Follow. Boost.

Helps curate your feed, helps increase the signal/noise ratio.

:)

@sentient_water It helps that the #HumanAlgorithm isn’t influenced by ad dollars that want to promote controversy and conflict over community and conversation.

@sue

There is a world of difference between the algos at use at commercial social media platforms and the #HumanAlgorithm that powers fedi.

CSM promotes conflict and controversy over conversation and community.

The Human Algorithm works the way humans have socialized for millennia.

I share cool people and cool ideas with my friends. My friends do the same for me. We work together and build conversation and community.

Let’s talk about the #HumanAlgorithm.

In the last five days, my account, which doesn’t post much, has had two very different posts go viral.

To everyone who found me: Heya, new friends! I do follow back quite often. Having a profile share your story is helpful.

To everyone else: Someone you think is cool thought you would like my words too. That why you’re seeing them.

Following this agent of chaos will add a new, different voice to your feed. Mostly fun, sometimes insightful, always kind.

#Welcome former #tumblr peeps!

I’m an agent of chaos with a few #FediTips to make your time here a little better.

The #HumanAlgorithm isn’t like what commercial social media has.

Community and conversation are preferred over conflict and controversy.

Boosting is more helpful than favouriting.

Following helps you see more and more interesting #fedi.

Be sincere. Be yourself.

No one else will be you 😜

Use CW’s for sensitive stuff.

Moving instances does not mean losing your people. 😁

@asaflowerblossoms

heya.

welcome.

you’ll find the #fediverse and the #HumanAlgorithm quite a refreshing blast of fresh air over commercial social media.

and yes, mastodon is very trans/queer friendly.

@VulcanTourist

It’s intriguing that I’ve found more success and connection here than on any other SM platform.

Just takes understanding the #HumanAlgorithm at play here.
