It’s funny, almost two years down the track from Musk’s Absorbaloff-ing of Twitter, while I have far far fewer followers on #mastodon, there is SO MUCH MORE engagement and conversation here. More than Bluesky or Threads as well.

And no pornbots in the replies.

I don’t know the path forward for this style of social media, but it’s weird how many more actual people are talking here than over at Animal Bot Farm.

@Catvalente

"And no pornbots in the replies."

Mastodon, the place where photos of pussies are photos of actual cats...

Seriously, are pornbots a regular thing on Xitter now?

@Lily_and_frog @Catvalente Yes.
In the comments and also just unprovoked in your DMs.

In the last months I wan't actibe there anymore and the only notifications I got were pornbot spam. :)

@Glatorius @Catvalente

Jeez... it sounds like being stuck in the year 2000 on a loop when we were getting loads of Cialis spam on HoTMaiL...

"Not going back"

@Glatorius @Lily_and_frog @Catvalente

Thank you, past me, for closing my DMs....

@Catvalente I salute your use of "Absorbaloff" as a verb. Normally I wouldn't want to recall that episode, but that's a perfect description for what happened to Twitter.
@Catvalente I told someone else "it's social media that doesn't suck." It's not without it's quirks, but a net positive for me so i keep plugging along.

I'm not sure on it's growth path though. There is a pain to getting up and running if you're not on one of the largest instances, but I think being able to start there and then migrate off if you so choose is a decent workaround.

(hope your hand is recovering well.)
@grayson I don’t know that Mastodon even wants to be the replacement for Twitter honestly.

@Catvalente

It's weird how sincere engagement is reacted to with sincere response 🤔

@Catvalente It may never gain massive adoption, but it seems like a more sustainable paradigm.

The quality of content is definitely higher, and I have so much more control over my timeline. I can't imagine ever going back to Xitter.

@Catvalente

…right?

when you remove the profit motive that drives conflict and controversy, you get the #HumanAlgorithm promoting community and conversation.
