Food banks have less to give this summer since the federal government cut millions in USDA funding.

The Houston Food Bank helps feed approximately 1 million people annually across 17 counties in Southeast Texas. But now, due to federal funding cuts at multiple agencies, the nonprofit likely will have to cut back on how many people it serves.

Houston Food Bank likely to scale back services after losing millions due to federal funding cuts

The food bank is “scrambling” to try and make up for some of the losses through donations, said Brian Greene, president of the nonprofit organization.

Houston rodeo concessionaire donates more than 7,000 pounds of unused goods to Houston Food Bank

Following the last day of the rodeo this past weekend, concessions vendor RCS Carnival Midway donated 7,118 pounds of fresh bread, dairy, meat and produce to the Houston Food Bank. According to the food bank, the goods are equivalent to 5,913 meals.

Eat Drink HTX provides dining discounts, support for local food banks

From Saturday through Feb. 28, diners can enjoy a two-course brunch or lunch for $15 or a $25 dinner at participating restaurants. Each meal purchased will help provide three to nine meals for local food banks.
