42nd Street (1933), arguably the greatest musical of them all. Hardboiled, sexy, sassy, snappy plus those Busby Berkeley production numbers. It's like a delicious cocktail but with enough hard liquor in it to give it a real kick. Movie magic.

Bright Lights (AKA Adventures in Africa) is a fascinating pre-code oddity, a backstage musical with romance and murder. Lightweight breezy fun, a fine showcase for star Dorothy Mackaill. The Cannibal Love musical number is a highlight.

I'm a big fan of Cecil B. DeMille’s comedies. My favourite is his outrageous pre-code musical sex comedy Madam Satan (1930). Zeppelins, amazing costumes, lots of pre-code naughtiness. It all adds up to delirious crazy fun.

Grease (1978) is a movie I'd never seen. Not at all what I expected. It's kind of crazy, in an interesting way. The 50s and the 70s all mixed up together plus some extra weirdness. Seeing it now it has a bit of a psychotronic vibe. I liked it.
