Also, just to get this off my chest: I *hate* wearing #masks. I absolutely hate it. I've trained myself to deal with them without melting down, but I have breathing-related #PTSD and sensory processing disorder and masks are incredibly unpleasant. If it were just me, I might be tempted to stop wearing them (even though I remember how nearly dying of a respiratory infection was far more unpleasant).

But I keep wearing them. Because spouse.

@Sunny @luckytran There are a lot of health issues that we can't completely eliminate but that doesn't mean we don't try to lessen the harm from them.

Leaders should be supporting public health policies that lower the risk of infection such as air filtration and mask wearing. At the very least we should not be seeing comments from hospitals saying that patients can't even ask their doctors to wear masks. 🙃

Immunocompromised patients feel unsafe as Boston hospitals drop universal masking

At Mass General Brigham, patients can ask doctors to mask up, but compliance is not guaranteed.

Which Oakland and Berkeley hospitals have mask mandates?

Healthcare workers and others in California are no longer required by the state to wear masks at hospitals or other high-risk areas.

@shellkr @WestCoastChelle one way masking is not as protective as it needs to be, particularly in situations where there are many people who are unmasked, and where there have been no meaningful improvements to air quality. For those of us who are #HighRiskCovid it’s insufficient. Masking in public places, particularly places that people don’t have options to avoid, like medical facilities and grocery stores is the bare minimum of human decency in an ongoing pandemic.
With masks being dropped even in medical settings, we are rapidly descending to a point where #immunocompromised and #HighRiskCovid (people at notably heightened risk of serious illness, death and/or [worsened] disability) are not going to be able to go anywhere or participate in any aspect of life that isn’t explicitly planned by one of our number — or for the richest and most elite, who are the only ones still requiring mitigation, e.g. Davos.

How will y'all treat disabled and/or elderly people as the effects of climate change become more severe?

The way you're treating us now during pandemic.

How our nations, our schools, our cities, our neighbors, friends & families handled this pandemic was a dress rehearsal for how they'll handle other things that require working together & caring for one another.

So far, many get a failing grade.

The time to do better is NOW.

The contempt that they show for the sick, disabled, immunocompromised and other #HighRiskCOVID Americans is only eclipsed by the arrogance with which they continue to pretend that they haven’t been fully captured by the necrosecurity scheme of this administration.
