Still struggling to focus on reading. But enjoyed #HarlemShuffle by #ColsonWhitehead. Not sure what it all means but an entertaining insight into the blurred space between straight and criminal life in Harlem in the 1960s. #bookstodon #bookToot #KeefsReads

Sticking with R&B. This time from 1963 from Bob & Earl and Harlem Shuffle. A failure on first release, it was reissued in 1969 and reached #7 in the UK.

I recently picked up a used copy of #HarlemShuffle by #ColsonWhitehead (author of The Underground Railroad), which I'm looking forward to finishing this year. My reading was interrupted by a library book (#Cosmos by #CarlSagan )
I read #NickelBoys last year, which was powerful and based on the real-world tragedy of the Dozier School in Florida. Harlem Shuffle occurs later in the same timeline by the author.

“It was the last time he raised his hand. The way he saw it, living taught you that you didn’t have to live the way you’d been taught to live. You came from one place but more important was where you decided to go.”
