Finalising my slides on Opening Up Smart Learning Cities for Lifelong Learning and Urban Belonging, for my session in the Ambient and Pervasive Interactions track of HCII2023 at end of July.
I need to practice to familiarise myself with it and add some refs but overall I think it's there. I'll be talking at the end about the decentralised future of the knowledge web, with a big picture of the Fediverse 🔆.
Academic publishing is becoming legalised extortion.
Really disappointed to find out that this years HCI conference is nearly €700 to register. It's "hybrid', so no discount at all to present virtually. I wrote a paper that took at least 2 weeks solid work, but now have to find stupid money to present it. I only get sporadic paid work these days so pretty sure I'll have to drop out unless I can find support (unlikely).
Draft paper almost ready to submit for #HCII2023. "Opening up Smart Learning Cities - building knowledge, interactions and communities for lifelong learning and urban belonging". This is about reading and writing the city, supporting the civic memory archive of urban belonging. Still needs more proofreading but v pleased to be writing about the #Fediverse in this context.
I'm starting to develop a research proposal /find modest funding. Any advice appreciated.
