🧵 /3 Peeping under the vent at the NE end of the tunnel. The SW end is tensioned right down, as there can be savage winds from that direction and the bottom / top ventilation opposite ends creates a nice convection, even with no wind.

To off-the-shelfers this may look very tatty, but I see perfection in the home-grown-sourcing, re-use, salvaging and repurposing of practically everything visible. The only new manufactured materials are the membrane itself and the woven groundcover fabric used to line the beds, with its extreme durability and many uses.

Decided to add a centre post to straighten the now sagging "ridge" beam yesterday, as we have storms forecast, and it'll help avoid puddling.

... 4 months after the pic/post of the #practicalsolarpunk #polytunnel in construction ⬆️ - here it is again. Thanks to it being too hot to work outside this afternoon.

Yesterday around 5pm, also over 37 C, it was actually cooler in there than outside.

Nou nou we gaan beginnen! Op de foto allerlei bakjes met oogst. Rode bessen, dan in bak tayberries en wat gele framboos, in t blauwe vergiet de eerste frambozen en daarnaast een glazen schaal met aardbeien 🤩

Bought Stuart a mini cucumber plant as he is currently eating such things. Its called Quick Snack and the cucs, if we get them, are ready at 2 to 3 inches. There are lots of embryonic flowers. #GrowYourOwn

Tomatoes are looking healthy and there are lots of flowers on the Orengeto but still a huge differences in height, especially in the ones called Honeymoon, which also had poor germination ##GrowYourOwn

Last year was my first year experimenting with corn. I don't have land so having a friend let me put whatever I wanted in his yard was very helpful.

This year I'm moving on to trying the three sisters technique. Corn, beans, and squash.

Five tiny clusters of corn, up which will grow pole beans, and then a squash for ground cover. Only one set is complete at this point.

I'm trying to stagger the different varieties of corn so that they don't cross pollinate. (Not that that really matters since I'm probably not going to save the seeds.)

And I'm still waiting for my corn smut culture to arrive. Not that it matters for some time yet.

Yay! #SunGoldTomato plants have been spoken for, and selectboard neighbor snagged one and thanked me for the #PlantSwap suggestion! TBH, I'm really grateful to be able to interact with more neighbors. A lot of the folks I've known for a while have moved or are thinking about moving. Time to make some new friends!
