A few years ago, I interviewed with Google and had a bad experience.
The recruiter wouldn't tell me for what position I was interviewing, telling me something like "That's not how we do it here." They wouldn't even tell me for what level I was interviewing (which is of course tied to pay ranges).
I interviewed with members of a hardware team, which I believe was part of Google's FitBit group.
The whole experience left me thinking that these people weren't very bright, nor even reasonably professional.
There's an old expression that seemed to fit: "That's no way to run a railroad."
I say that as someone who has spent many years developing tools for people who run railroads.
"Jan 10 (Reuters) - Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google said on Wednesday it is laying off hundreds of employees across multiple teams, with Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman also leaving the company, as the tech giant continues to cut costs."

"Competition for talent in the technology industry has fallen significantly allowing Alphabet to materially reduce compensation per employee. In particular, Alphabet should limit stock- based compensation given the depressed share price."
I'm curious to know what people in Silicon Valley feel about this statement. #googlelayoff #techindustry #tech #siliconvalley
My latest blog post: “On being laid off from Google.” (Combines my Facebook posts from Friday and Saturday; if you’ve read those, there’s nothing new here.)
Post is about 6,000 words long. Short version: I’ve been laid off after 18 years at #Google; I’m fine; I’m not looking for a new job yet.
