Comics Aggregator: workaround while “Nancy” is in transition

If you read the comic strip Nancy in the Comics Aggregator, you may have noticed that your comics page is loading slowly and displaying an error for Nancy.

This is because Nancy has stopped publishing new strips temporarily while transitioning to a new artist.

The slow page load is due to the fact that unfortunately GoComics has put some anti-scraping technology in front of their website which makes it take longer for the aggregator to look for strips there.

As a workaround you can switch to reading “Nancy (1-day delay)”, which I’ve just added to the aggregator. That will load faster, and once the strip starts publishing again it’ll return to your page the next day, then you can switch back to “Nancy” without the “(1-day delay)”.

As a reminder, maintaining the aggregator costs me time and money and your support would be appreciated.

When I received the GoComics spam described above, I replied and complained (first image below). I did not expect a response.
But I actually received one, saying that they had unsubscribed me.
I wrote back and said that's nice but they didn't answer my questions (second image below).
They actually sent a substantive response (third image below).
They shouldn't have spammed me, but they handled my complaint about it pretty well.
I have an account at https://GoComics.com/.
I have had the account for a very long time. I don't remember them sending me any spam in a very long time.
Today, they sent me marketing spam.
There is no "Unsubscribe" link anywhere in the email, there's just a "Manage preferences" link. That's a shitty dark pattern.
When I click the "Manage preferences" link, the page it brings me to claims that I am already unsubscribed from marketing emails.
Assholes.

I'm not sure whether this qualifies as a #TechIsShitDispatch, but I think it does, at least indirectly.
Probably because of all the #GenAI crawlers looking for content to steal, overnight last night https://GoComics.com/ added a CAPTCHA wall to their site which tripped up my comics aggregator (https://comics.kamens.us/). I had to spend several hours this morning refactoring it to use #Selenium, which I wouldn't have had to do if it weren't for all the shitty crawlers.

Establishing a secure connection ...

It seems that comicsrss.com got a copyright infringement notice from #GoComics and took down their #RSS feeds for their comics, so I guess I won't be reading any GoComics material anymore, since RSS is the only reasonable way to follow comics on the web.
