For days I've been trying to figure out what concrete steps I could take to help the protestors and observers in Minneapolis from afar.
Yesterday, I finally got an answer: there's a group buying and installing car dashcams for observers, and they have an Amazon wishlist. I don't like to do business with Amazon, but this is a good thing to make an exception for. (1/8)

Sony (PlayStation) sends email telling me there's something wrong with my payment information and I need to fix it or scheduled payments won't work.
This email looks every bit like phishing (they could have included the last four digits of the card number or told me what's wrong, but instead it was a completely generic message), but I was able to verify its legitimacy, aided by the fact that I know I just canceled a credit card so that's probably what it's about. The shit for brains company that administers the Flexible Spending Account my wife just enrolled in at her job preassigns usernames for their web portal, and they've decided to put at the end of everyone's preassigned username… the last four digits of their SSN. 🀦

I am perpetually amazed by the fact that nearly all the companies that offer Flexible Spending Account administration services to businesses in the United States are complete and total clowns who apparently can't make it over even the incredibly low bar of, "When you send people instructions for how to use your site, the instructions should actually match what's on your site."

It's been more than a year since #Debian #Linux deprecated the insecure #SHA1 hash algorithm in #APT repositories.
The #Keybase, #Slack, and #Dropbox repositories (I'm sure among others) are still using SHA1, and therefore for over a year they have not worked in Debian without changing the default APT policies to allow them.
I know Slack knows about this, because I told them. A year ago.
Why haven't they upgraded the security on their repository?
Seriously, wtf?

My son just tried to fill out the #FAFSA for the first time. The first step in that process is creating a #FsaId at https://studentaid.gov/.
The website is broken and refusing to allow my son to create an FSA ID. "An unknown error has occurred. Please try again later or close all browser windows and start over." over and over, from a different page in the process each time he tries.
Your government at work!

My uncle's care team at the hospital has been trying to get his health insurance company to approve daily nurse visits. This effort is time-critical, because he's almost ready, medically, to be discharged, and if the nurse visits aren't approved by then he's going to go back to his apartment without them, and that is not going to go well for him.
Two days ago the insurance company sent him a document through their web portal about the visiting nurse request.

Remember how I was being forced to reboot my home router multiple times per day because it would suddenly stop allowing specific TCP connections through the router?
I tried to get help from TP-Link support, and they were useless.
Just to see if it would help, I factory reset the router and manually restored its configuration, and lo and behold, the problem has not returned. 🀦

Oh, holy shit, it appears that #Vanguard objects to my password manager filling in my username and password.

If I have Bitwarden fill in the username and password, and then I click on the username field and hit tab twice so that a real key-press (the tab key) is registered in both the username and password field, and THEN click the login button, I am logged in just fine.

#Vanguard says my username or password is incorrect. That's false.
Nevertheless, reset my password successfully and immediately afterward I got the same message with my new password.
My wife can't log in either.
Doesn't work in Vivaldi, Firefox, Chrome, or Chromium (with no extensions or blockers).
Doesn't work in private browsing window.
Their support line is closed on the weekend so I can't call until tomorrow to find out wtf is going on.
This is some serious bullshit.
