It wouldn't be a holiday to Assynt without some serious rockery. Here we have the Moine Thrust exposure by Loch Glencoul and Loch Eileanach surrounded by wonderful Scourian gneiss and amphibolite dykes.

I don't normally post ads on social media, but this might be of interest to anyone interested in #geology in the #Glasgow area. I am selling a free-standing island kitchen unit (cupboard/drawers) with an absolutely stunning #granite (actually #gneiss ) top 127x86cm. It's beautifully polished and lovely minerals such as garnets, pyrite & pyroxene (?) are visible. Truly a spectacular top but I will have nowhere to put it ☹️.

There is quite a pronounced change in the underlying geology, going from the beach at St Cyrus (igneous; tuff) half a mile further round to Tangleha'. So no wonder I was surprised to see this beautiful banded gneiss sitting in a beach of otherwise red sandstone.
