Been thinking…(it sometimes happens :))… if an international corporation wishes to trade in Australia, they are essentially applying to make a profit (withdraw $$) from the Ausralian econnomy. Since the govt is the entity which pumps money (creates) the economy and manages (levies taxes) it for the benefit of its citizens and permanent residents, those corporations have a ‘duty’ to pay their fair share of the taxes required to participate in our economy. Moreover, they should also pay further taxes to ensure that they don’t adversly affect it — they should not take more money out of the economy then they put in. That seems fair.

I know that #globalisation and #neo-classical economics would peddle a story about the economy needing foreign investments in order to grow the ‘pie’, but that is only a #neoliberalism. Foreign investments only add funds to an already growing sovereign economy (through domestic innovation, population growth, etc.), it’s not a necessity, it’s more like a ‘nice-to-have’ (if managed properly) and only if that investment returns more $ to the economy then those investors syphons out as profits which tend to go overseas to grow a foreign economy.

Those are my layman’s views of course. Experts and pundits will use a lot of technical jargon to counter those views. But really, it’s only a smoke screen used by #Grifters. Our First Nations people survived for 60,000 years without our ‘western’ style #Grifting …erh, sry, economic theories.

Lifestyle choices?… call it what it is, #Advertising induced #BrainWashing #Consumerism. Living within our means (including planetary resource limits) is not in the #NeoLiberal mindset of #Grifters nor in the unfetted #Capitalism and #Globalisation handbook. Is the quality of life really enhanced in proportion to the amount of goods we consume or acquire? I think not.

There’s nothing like retirement on a modest pension to make one come to their senses and see that a comfortable, happy and fruitful life can be had cheaply enough. It helps if working life is used to save, consume less with the environment in mind and asking a simple question: ‘do I really need this?’ before buying anything. Some goods are essential, most are not.

/End_of_rant. — doing too much ranting me thinks. Time for a reset.

Understanding 'lifestyle creep' and what it's costing you

If you tend to splurge on more indulgences any time you receive a pay rise, you may be suffering from lifestyle creep — and it could have a longstanding effect on your finances.

One of the things thar disturbs me about Heinz Watties announcement that they were closing down their vegetable and food processing plants in Dunedin, Christchurch and Auckland is how a large foreign corporate took over the company and is slowly destroying it. Over some years now they have stopped using locally grown produce and substituted imported products e.g. asparagus, tomatoes and corn, from much cheaper source countries like Peru and Thailand. Local farmers lose contracts. #Aotearoa becomes more dependent on imported food in place of more secure home grown food. So Heinz is increasing our food security risk. That should be a concern for every Kiwi. Something similar occured with Mondelez. Huge global corporations like these are like vultures stripping everything down to the bone. #foodsecurity #globalisation #corporations #risk

#Nietzsche #industrialisation #globalisation #philosophie

@adamtooze makes the important point that globalisation is essentially a Eurasian story (with some stats to underline that observation), and so globalisation as a global political economic phenomenon is only over when Eurasia modifies its behaviour.

The end of globalisation isn't something that is driven by the Tangerine Tyrant's (and US) economic policies.... rather, the pivot away from the US may see just globalisation continue minus the US!

OMG! A wild ride… “Based off the newest tranche of emails and texts released by the Justice Department this weekend, Epstein, at the very least, believed that he was orchestrating the downfall of the global order in the 2010s. In June 2016, he emailed venture capitalist, early Facebook investor, and Palantir founder Peter Thiel, writing, “Brexit, just the beginning.” He then laid out the most succinct mission statement we currently have for what Epstein was trying to accomplish. “Return to tribalism,” he wrote. “Counter to globalization. Amazing new alliances. You and I both agreed zero interest rates were too high, and as I said in your office. Finding things on their way to collapse was much easier than finding the next bargain.” 😮

Read that again: “Epstein… believed… he was orchestrating the downfall of the global order”.😐

Been wondering ever since I read that terse email “Brexit, just the beginning” implying that #Epstein & #Thiel think they caused it. Now this rationale. ☝️

Can this really be so? Or is this #billionaires delusion? How could we know, how could we test for the truth of this hypothesis?🤔
