Love this brass inlay in the threshold of the Tollbooth Bar at Glasgow Cross. This bar, along with the neighbouring tenements, was designed in a Scots Renaissance style by J.J. Burnet and was built in 1899. They were constructed for the Caledonian Railway Company, and the complex includes a ventilation opening for railway tunnel below.

Late Victorian City Improvement Trust tenement on the corner between Trongate and Saltmarket in central Glasgow. Built by A.B. MacDonald in the 1890s, it may have originally been designed by John Carrick in 1877.

The Mercat Cross, marking the original centre of Glasgow. While it's built in a 17th Century style, it was only erected in 1929 to replace the original which was removed in 1659. It was designed by Edith Burnet Hughes, the neice of John James Burnet. Born in Edinburgh in 1888, she established her own architectural firm in Glasgow in 1920, and was one of the first female architects in Britain to do so.

The Mercat Building between London Road and Gallowgate in Glasgow. It was designed by A. Graham Henderson in a Modern Classical style was and built at the end of the 1920s. A Mercat in this instance is not a mythical half fish-half feline creature, or a small African mammal which sells insurance. Instead it refers to the Mercat, or Market, Cross, where markets were traditionally held and which stands directly in front of it.
