For those of you who haven't heard, the arts and cultural hub at 103 Trongate is being threatened with eviction. Amongst other things, it's home to the Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre, one of Glasgow's best-loved and unique visitor attractions.

If you're interested, there's a petition to save the cultural hub, which you can sign here: https://www.change.org/p/save-trongate103-from-closure.

1840s Tudor Gothic gable and finial on 75 Trongate, Glasgow. I love their shapes, and the coat of arms is a cracker, too, especially the fish which are supporting it.

A 1890s City Improvement Trust tenement designed by A.B. MacDonald in a mix of Flemish and Scottish Baronial styles on the corner of King Street and Trongate in Glasgow, with the 17th century Tron Steeple in the background.

Blonde sandstone tenements at the corner of Trongate and Chisholm Street in central Glasgow. Created by A.B. MacDonald in the 1890s, they were probably based on an 1877 design by John Carrick for the City Improvement Trust. The truncated conical corner roof gives it a rather nice French flavour.

One of the kenetic sculptures created for the Sharmanka Kenetic Theatre on display in the entrance to 103 Trongate in Glasgow. The Sharmanka theatre was founded by sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky and theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya in St Petersburg in 1989 and moved to Glasgow in the 1990s. It's one of those things I keep meaning to visit, but have never quite got round to. However, it's definitely on my list for this year.

Looking up at the Renaissance style 102 Trongate in Glasgow. Designed by George Bell in the 1890s, it was originally a warehouse with a Bank of Scotland on the ground floor. I particularly like the curved sash windows which you can just make out on the 1st floor.

It's built on the site where James Watt had a workshop in 1763. It was around this time that Watt had his idea to greatly improve the efficiency of steam engines by adding a separate condenser, so helping to kick start the industrial revolution. The location of this workshop is marked by a plaque on the side of the current building.
