Love this magnificent sleeping lion at the 19th Century mausoleum built for Alexander, the 10th Duke of Hamilton, in Strathclyde Park to southeast of Glasgow. It was sculpted by David Bryce.

I've never been too clear exactly what these animals on the front of the former bank building at Bridgeton Cross are, but I love them none-the-less.

Absolutely love the piercing stare and the motion of the roar of this beautifully sculpted lion on 125 St Vincent Street in Glasgow.

This rather beautiful ironwork grotesque is from J.J. Burnet's 1906 stable and servants' quarters at 1 Park Gardens Lane in the west end of the city.

I love this little bat on the Sandyford Henderson Memorial Church on Kelvinhaugh Street in Glasgow. I wonder how many people have walked past this church in the 170 years since it was built and haven't noticed the bat nestled into the overhang beside one of the doors.

Sometimes it seems Glasgow's architecture is infested with owls. This one's above the entrance to the Randolph Buildings on the University's Gilmorehill Campus.

Love this very cute, and sleepy-looking, owl nestled in the foliage on a column capital of Glasgow University Memorial Chapel.

I love this column capital featuring an owl and a mouse on the doorway of the 1930s Tennent Memorial Building on the former Western Infirmary site in the West End of Glasgow. It was created by the sculptor Archibald Dawson.
