‘AI’ Probably Isn’t Making People Stupid

God, so many clickbaity titles I could give this thing.

First up! I’m going to talk about a bunch of things like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Deepspeak, Claude and Gemini, under a generic term of generative media tools. I do this because I specifically don’t like referring to them as ‘AI,’ which constructs a seriousness and importance on these tools that they do not have nor deserve. It also centers these tools on what they are and what they do: They are tools for generating text based on input given to them.

Second, I’m going to quote one of these generative tools in this article, so, you know, Copilot Jumpscare.

Finally, I know this is going to sound silly, but I made sure this article was 1,000 words, minimum, not counting the generative text quote I put in it. It’s been my target number these past few years to make sure my blog posts hit that target, and given how these text generators are so verbose, it’d be pretty easy to rely on quotes from them to fill that count out.

For context, I have long used various #oracles, #GenerativeTools and other, similar resources as a source of inspiration and structure. I have a #DiceGame I created to determine all the basics of a sing: key, tempo, etc. I use Eno's #ObliqueStrategies constantly. And of course in #modular I use stuff like #TuringMachines and the #rungler all the time. This let me use a similar approach with titles/themes.
