What the blazes is going on in our #EducationSystem ? Is this another example of #Managerialism going wrong?

“Dr McNeill was appointed CEO in June 2025, but while applying for the role, did not tell the CIT board she was under investigation by TAFE NSW for "serious misconduct".

The controversy sparked the public inquiry, which led to an assembly committee making seven recommendations and 11 findings, including that Dr McNeill should have disclosed the information about the misconduct investigation to the CIT board in a timely manner.

Dr McNeill told the committee that she had sought to disclose the investigation to CIT during the recruitment process but had been advised on multiple occasions, both verbally and in writing, by TAFE NSW that she was not permitted to do so. “

When Children Are Sick, Schools Must Adapt - WHN

What COVID and Chronic Illness Have Taught Us About Education, Health, and Inclusion For many families, the phrase “remote learning” conjures memories of the early pandemic, unplanned shifts to online instruction that were often confusing, uneven, and frustrating for students, families, and educators alike. But it’s important to remember that what most children experienced in … Continued

“Education is not the amount of information that is pushed into the brain and causes havoc there, undigested all through a lifetime. Education must be a symposium of life-building, character- making and assimilation of ideas in the pursuit of building a more harmonious, peaceful and truly civilized world.”

Why these parents want to see less screen time in N.S. classrooms
Technology is deeply embedded in Canadian classrooms, but some Nova Scotia parents say the public education system relies too heavily on screen use. They are questioning why, when and how technology is introduced to their kids, and they think parents should have more say in these decisions.

Wikipedia Is a Valid Source, And It’s Time We Stop Pretending It’s Not

This is going to be a hot take. A big one. The kind that makes academic purists clutch their pearls and scream about “proper sourcing” and “peer review” like it’s the end of the world. But fuck it. It needs to be said. Wikipedia is a valid source. Not “kind of valid.” Not “okay for starting research.” Not “don’t cite it but you can look at it.” No. A valid source. Full stop. And the refusal to acknowledge that? It reeks of elitist academia bullshit. Let’s be […]

‘Teachers who use AI “will replace those who don’t,”’ warned Malcolm Byrne, the Fianna Fáil TD who chairs the Oireachtas committee on artificial intelligence. Speaking about the rapid emergence of generative tools in schools, Byrne said Ireland risks lagging behind if it does not have a clear, responsible framework for integrating artificial intelligence into the formal education system.

Byrne’s warning reflects growing anxiety among educators that AI‑savvy teachers will gain a decisive advantage in delivering personalised learning, assessing work and preparing students for a technology‑driven workplace. He argued that schools must move quickly to develop guidelines, training and safeguards so that AI enhances teaching rather than creating a divide between early adopters and those who remain cautious.

The committee’s message is a call to policymakers, the Department of Education and teachers’ unions to start a national conversation on curriculum updates, data‑privacy protections and the ethical use of AI in classrooms. If addressed promptly, Byrne believes Ireland can harness the benefits of AI while avoiding a future where teachers who ignore the technology are left behind.
