Dans la cité-jardins de Stains, côté immeubles d’habitation. Pas sûre que ces balcons soient très fonctionnels pour les humains, mais les chats ont l’air de les trouver à leur goût et c’est déjà chat, enfin ça, bref. Août 2021.

Delighted to have been re-elected as a Trustee of the Town & Country Planning Association (TCPA). My sincere thanks to all those who voted for me. The TCPA is a really great organisation tht continues to make the case for good planning & placemaking.

As the TCPA highlights, the way tht places are planned, designed, maintained & regenerated can help or hinder work to tackle health inequalities, climate change, and economic resilience: https://www.tcpa.org.uk/join/ #gardencities #proudofplanning

I've been asked many times for the birthplace of racial covenants in Baltimore but I keep forgetting. That is Roland Park, which both J.C. Nichols and Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. pointed to as best practice for others to copy across the continent #segregation #gardencities #baltimore https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Park,_Baltimore

Colin Bisset's Iconic Designs — Ebenezer Howard - ABC listen

A precursor to the 15 minute city, Ebenezer Howard's Garden City privileged the idea of proximity and was based on the assumption that easy access to everything from workshops and offices to schools and social life makes it a happier, easier place to be.

ABC listen
The "Three Magnets" diagram from Ebenezer Howard’s 1898 book on Garden Cities. One magnet lists the pro and cons of urban life, another does the same for rural living. The third (and presumably strongest) magnet lists the pluses (no minuses!) of "Town-Country", i.e. Garden Cities (presented as the best of both worlds).

The Town and Country Planning Association is re-examining the roots of the #GardenCities movement - and asking: what can it give us in the 21st century? 2023 marks the 125th anniversary of the publication of Tomorrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform, a book which is much misunderstood but one of the world's most radical & practical attempts to understand how we can live in a fairer & healthier way. Known as Tomorrow 125 (#T125) You can follow the project here: https://www.tomorrow125.org.uk
