Mit #GalliumNine läuft es interessanterweise besser, als mit Proton und DXVK …

Last night, I wanted to show off my little dice rolling tool I made in Unity a few years ago. But I made it before switching to Linux, so all I had was a Windows build.

Now, apparently Unity on Windows defaults to DirectX 11. "No problem!" I thought, and installed DXVK. And then the penny dropped...

My laptop is so old, that it doesn't even support Vulkan properly.  

And I never noticed this, because I only ever ran DirectX 9 games through Gallium Nine.

Well, another reason to continue the conversion to Godot...

@Kaldo @sdx Even though #Valve is maintaining #Proton, which is based on #Wine, I think projects like #DXVK and #GalliumNine would not exist or have come this far if it weren't for Valve.

I think Valve's contribution to the #Linux world is very indirect, but cannot be denied.

@lemon @webghost0101 You can even achieve that with just #Wine. I carefully set up my Wine on my two devices with #DXVK on one and #GalliumNine on the other. Took a while, to be honest.

But now, together with wine-binfmt and icoutils, I can just double-click any #Windows game. 🍷

Nach einem langen, gestrigen Tag habe ich endlich #Hyperbola auf einem Notebook mit Radeon-Grafikkarte zum Laufen gebracht. Wie? Nun leider ohne Libre-Kernel und mit proprietärer Firmware. Ich habe den Kernel von #Arch entsprechend heruntergeladen und gesondert installiert. Somit ist der erste Grundstein gelegt später wieder zu wechseln und noch dazu kann ich #Gallium-Nine wieder benutzen! #Tätigkeiten #Free-and-Libre
