There's a bioblitz for all of the southern hemisphere? That's great!

Yes, it's the annual *Great Southern Bioblitz*, and it starts today and runs for 4 days.

All iNaturalist observations made between 24–27 October in participating regions and countries automatically get added to the Great Southern Bioblitz project. That includes all of New Zealand's regions.

Last year, 9,322 people found 27,015 species. Let's see what we can all find in 2025.

The ‘Great Southern BioBlitz’, or ‘GSB’ for short, is an international period of intense biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species across the Southern Hemisphere in Spring. As we are international, in Spanish we are known as 'Gran Biobúsqueda del Sur’, while in Portuguese we are known as ‘Grande BioBlitz do Hemisfério Sul’.
