The #UK #Government has opened a new Structures Fund to help councils in #England repair ageing bridges, flyovers and tunnels. Part of a wider £1 billion roads package, the fund targets infrastructure that councils cannot afford to fix alone after years of underinvestment. It aims to reduce closures, weight restrictions and delays, while improving safety and resilience to extreme weather. Councils can now bid for funding, with draft applications due by 19 June and final submissions by 3 August 2026. Support from consultants WSP and a series of webinars will assist applicants. Decisions are expected in autumn 2026, with projects to be completed by March 2030. The scheme forms part of a broader £24 billion investment in roads and rail, alongside new rules requiring councils to demonstrate improvements or risk losing funding.
