I can't help but think back to this message I read added to the "Statue of the Unknown Dragon" on the now all but dead Alfandria MUCK. You'll never get this kind of feeling from modern social media. Not in an eternity.
I went back on FurryMuck today and just hung out with the people in the West corner of the park... it was the most refreshing thing I've done in YEARS... just engaging in basic muck conversation, banter and sillyness for hours. It made me realize just how sterile that telegram, discord and social media really are.
All these places people flock to today are all wiped down and made so sparkly clean so the advertisers can feel free to just roll right on in and you feel like you are staying in the Ritz. Yet something is missing, something you once had is gone, and you just wonder... what did I lose?
What did we lose? Freedom from advertisers and data brokers. Freedom from "influencers". Freedom from intrusion of the outside word into whatever we have cooking. Freedom to just imagine together.
holdon.. my last account from .. '96 was purged lol so I'm gonna sign up for a furrymuck account again
βWhen did you realize you were LGBTQ+?β
When I joined the furry fandom in 1994, on #FurryMUCK. I saw a drawing of a male character, and there was a realization. Something like βoh, so Iβm not 100% straight. Huh.β
30 years of being queer and furry, and counting!
@cargo
That brings back memories.
What #FurryMuck did back in the days happens on Telegram text chat today.
Yes, people on the outside may get the impression about #Fursuits and VR stuff. That's simply because they are so visible. Because they are ment to be seen and photographed and shown off.
I logged back on to #FurryMUCK for this first time in probably close to 15 years. As I poke around, I'm not sure which is making me sadder...
All the names I'm seeing that I recognize, or all the names I'm remembering that are missing...
When was the last time you logged into a Multi User Chat Kingdom? #MUCK
This one is Alfandria.net port 8888, guests welcome though the place is eerily quiet now, like an abandoned enchanted land...
#FurryMUCK and #Tapestries and #Spindizzy still exist too
