This is just a handful of problems and injustices that a person may face for leaving Islam. This all especially true if they live in a muslim majority country. However, those that don’t still face the risk of becoming victims of violent crimes, reviving threats, etc. These realities are all painful and heart breaking and no one should have to go through them. Unfortunately, this is the reality for millions of people world wide.

Due to the intense islamophobia that has been happening recently, I would also like to acknowledge that not all ex-muslims have a hard time leaving Islam. This is however, a reality that some do face.

Authorities in Isfahan are misusing Article 49 of the Iranian Constitution— meant to recover property derived by illicit means—to seize the property, freeze bank accounts, and block routine transactions of Baha’is, without evidence, due process, or transparency. The money goes to the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who can use it to distribute patronage and so shore up his rule in the face of discontent.

The leader of the small Baha’i community in Qatar has been sentenced to five years in prison on charges alleging that posts on Baha’i social media accounts “cast doubt on the foundations of the Islamic religion." That's according to the Baha’i International Community office in Geneva, Switzerland. According to the office, a three-judge panel of Qatar’s Supreme Judiciary Council issued the verdict against 71-year-old Remy Rowhani, who has been detained since April. According to the documentation, the judges rejected a defense request for leniency on grounds that Rowhani suffered from a heart condition. There was no immediate response from Qatar’s press office to AP's queries about the case.
