QuasitAs I mentioned elsewhere (and I'm not sure if this thread is connected at all to my previous one), someone suggested using the hashtag "FediDate" to help people get together and focus on the idea of a nonprofit Fediverse-based dating service. A lot of people seem to be really interested in the possibility! And one thing for sure, all of the commercial dating sites are basically designed to keep people constantly coming back and paying for premium services. In other words, they seem to want to block any possibility of people finding love.
I haven't forgotten about FediDate. Haven't found anyone who could help create it from a technical standpoint, but I still believe that it's something that people want and need.
Is it something that could be implemented in a crude way on Mastodon itself? Like r4r on Reddit?
I mean, the FediDate hashtag seems like a useful tool. Maybe set up some recommendations for additional hashtags for location, X looking for Y (or X, whatever), age, etc?
What do you think?

In college long ago, a beautiful girl asked me into a private study room and asked me to rub Ben-Gay on her back. She locked the door, turned her back and took off her shirt and bra. And I...just rubbed Ben-Gay on her back.
It was unimaginable to me that anyone could ever be interested in me. I was raised by an abusive mother, you see, and bullied in school constantly. I didn't kiss anyone or lose my virginity (not an expression I like, btw) until my early 30s. I ended up marrying that woman (NOT the girl from college), although I wasn't in love with her.
We divorced a bit over ten years ago. I live as a single father with our now-adult son; she abandoned him.
I did a little dating for a while, but it never works out. So I gave up some years ago. I'm too old for that stuff, and much as I love women, they've only ever hurt me.
But maybe other people can find love. It would be nice to be able to help them. I *hate* that big dating service corporations like Match are abusing and exploiting them for money!
I haven't given up on FediDate, but there hasn't been any followup from anyone else out there - and I don't have the skills or resources to make it happen by myself. That's understandable, with the world basically falling apart at this point.
But I think a lot of people would be happier if they had someone to love and stand with while all this is going on. So I think FediDate's time will come.
I'm not sure if I should be replying to my original post, or do a new one; maybe I'll do both this one time, just in case. I hope that's okay.
@sashin kindly suggested that "FediDate" would be a more apt name for a Fediverse dating service, and I agree. "FediMeet" is still a good name for either A) the current practice of people in the Fediverse meeting in real life, or possibly B) a Fediverse-based app to facilitate those meetings.
For now, I'll use both hashtags as well as "dating". Please follow FediDate as well as FediMeet if you're interested!
