The Desire for Terror
The #Trump admin plans to #federalize 300 members of the #Illinois #NationalGuard, Democratic Gov #JBPritzker says.
Pritzker, who called the move “absolutely outrageous & un-American,” said the Guard received word from the #Pentagon on Saturday morning that the #troops would be called up. He did not specify when or where they would be deployed, but Trump has long threatened to send troops into #Chicago.

President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of 300 National Guard members to Chicago, where on the same day Border Patrol agents shot and injured a woman they said tried to run them over. The White House cited ongoing violence and lawlessness as reasons for the deployment. Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker criticized the decision, calling it unnecessary and a performance rather than a genuine safety effort. Federal agents shot the woman Saturday morning, and investigators said she was armed with a semiautomatic weapon. The woman was treated at a hospital and released. Trump has long threatened to send troops to Chicago.

A state’s #governor generally oversees his own #NationalGuard, but the president can #federalize & deploy #troops over objections under #Title10 of federal #law. It permits the president to issue orders to National Guard members if there is a “rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the government.” [which is not the case]
