A new report from 404 Media sheds light on how automated license plate readers (ALPRs) could be used beyond the press releases and glossy marketing materials put out by law enforcement agencies and ALPR vendors.

EVERETT, #Washington β The City of #Everett has shut down its entire network of [68] #Flock license plate reader cameras after a Snohomish County judge ruled the footage those cameras collect qualifies as a public record.
The decision came after a Washington man filed public records requests seeking access to data captured by the cameras.
...
Franklin said if lawmakers pass legislation allowing cities to shield Flock data from public disclosure, Everett would consider turning the cameras back on. She said the city is not dismantling or removing the cameras in the meantime.
βShould we get a fix in Olympia that allows us to protect the data from public disclosure, then we can make the decision to turn them back on,β Franklin said.

Sounds to me like there are 68 Flock cameras that aren't currently recording acts of vandalism to Flock cameras ππΌββοΈ
Sounds like there's a chance to get a definition of end to end encryption back into the bill regulating mass surveillance devices in Oregon. A definition that would force companies like Flock and Axon to keep the data they collect in Oregon encrypted on their systems - making it harder to profit off it by sneaking in backdoor access or using it to train AI.
Mass Surveillance on Campus educational panel & organizing event today at noon, open to the public, relevant to everyone in town. C'mon and hang!
